Exploring Baden-Württemberg, Germany

Colorful Houses Along The Neckar River In Tübingen, Germany

When we were planning our big monthly country adventure, we knew Germany was high on the list. We ended up in a little town called Bad Urach this month and it has ended up being perfect for us: just big enough to be convenient for normal life and just small enough to feel authentic and charming. In the surrounding area, there are a million little towns with a charm all their own, so in our free time, we’ve been exploring the area.

Here you’ll see a few places around the German state of Baden-Württemberg: our our current city (Bad Urach), Lichtenstein Castle, the Hohenurach Castle Ruins, and the Neckar River in Tübingen.

I feel like we’ve gotten really lucky with the timing of each of our monthly homes and Germany is no different. It’s so fun (albeit sweaty) to be in Germany in July, and if I were planning a European destination wedding, I’d seriously consider June and July as the optimal wedding months. There’s so much gorgeous nature here just begging you to dance around in it.

Ideas for Destination Weddings in Baden-Württemberg

  1.  You could have a ceremony in Tübingen’s beautiful park or one of the old wooden-beamed buildings in the city, and then how fun would it be to take a “getaway boat” along the Neckar River after your wedding reception?? Oo! Or…
  2.  I really don’t know if this would could be arranged, but if you could rent out Hohenurach castle ruins for a day, it would be the most incredible spot to have your destination wedding, especially if you’re planning a small casual reception. You and your guests could hike up to the castle (not for the feint of heart, I should mention!) and then spend the day admiring the expansive city views and end it all with campfire s’mores while watching the flames flicker on the crumbled palace walls while you snuggle your honey.
  3. In between Bad Urach Waterfall and the train station of the same name, there is an enormous field with mountains encircling it and a stream running alongside. There’s even a view of the Hohenurach castle ruins! Set up some pretty wooden chairs and say your vows beneath one of the massive trees? *swoon*
